December 16 trial date set Tuesday for Victor Weems
A Quincy man, charged with murder in the late-May 2023 shooting death of a woman sitting on a front porch of a home on the city's southwest side, will go on trial late this year.
Victor Weems the Third was in Adams County Circuit Court Tuesday, where a December 16th trial date was set. Weems has pleaded Not Guilty to counts of 1st Degree Murder and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. He had been wanted since his indictment last May, and is charged in the May 24th, 2023 death of Dana Lawton, who was shot while sitting on a front porch of a home in the 1100 block of Jefferson. Officials think she was shot as a result of a disturbance at 12th and Jefferson. Lawton later died at a Springfield hospital.
Weems is in the Adams County Jail, after being denied pre-trial release.
