Drew Clinton wanted 2021 sexual assault charge removed from his record

A Quincy man, whose 2021 sexual assault conviction was overturned early last year by an Adams County judge, has had his request to have the conviction removed from his record denied.

Drew Clinton was in Adams County Circuit Court Wednesday, where after arguments on the motion, Judge Roger Thomson denied Clinton's request. His lawyers filed the motion in February 2022 to expunge the charge, a month after Judge Robert Adrian threw out Clinton’s conviction on one count of criminal sexual assault. Judge Adrian found Clinton Guilty last October after a bench trial. Clinton was convicted of assaulting a 16-year old girl at a party in May, 2021.

Judge Adrian had been removed from hearing criminal cases, but was reinstated in late December. He's under investigation by the state of Illinois Judicial Inquiry Board for the decision on Clinton, and his decision several days later to kick Adams County Lead Trial Attorney Josh Jones out of his courtroom, for liking a Facebook post that was critical of Judge Adrian.
