IL. State Police release more details of Wednesday shooting
The Illinois State Police says that a suspect who was shot by Hancock County authorities Wednesday afternoon died of their injuries.
The ISP released a statement Thursday about the shooting, which they say involved two Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Deputies. According to the statement, the deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person. During the incident, the un-named suspect got into the patrol car of the first deputy on scene, and held them at gunpoint. The deputy was able to get out of the patrol car, and shots were then fired at the suspect. A second deputy was on scene and picked up the first deputy. The suspect then took control of the patrol car and fled the scene. After a short pursuit, there was an exchange of gunfire between the officers and the suspect near US 136 and Hancock County Road 2500 East. That's northeast of Carthage. The suspect was pronounced dead at an area hospital a short time later. No officers were hurt.
The ISP says their investigation is active and ongoing.
