City urging water conservation; boil order likely
Quincy Mayor Mike Troup has confirmed there's been a water main break at the city's water treatment plant.
The break was caused Thursday afternoon by an excavator being used to dig out ground for upgrades to the water treatment plant. The excavator apparently hit a pipe that officials didn't know existed. Residents are asked to conserve water for the time being. There will likely be a city-wide boil order in place once repairs to the main break have been completed.
Quincy Public Schools say that classes will be in session today, and that food service won't be affected. QPS says that they are making arrangements to have bottled water available at each building.QND also says that school is in session Friday, and that students should bring their own water to school.
