The City Council Monday night voted 8 to 5 to approve a new labor deal with police, that's nearly identical to a deal reached last December with Quincy Firefighters Local 63. Under the deal, police will get a 2% raise the first year, followed by 2.5% the second year, and 2.75% the third year. Just like firefighters, the city will buy back some sick days, reducing the total number to be accumulated from 90 days to 45. Police Chief Rob Copley called the contract a fair one.

The city will spend $600,000 for sick-day buy backs, and the reduction by police will save the city $90,000 over the life of the contract. Officers will also slight increases in their health care premiums in each year of the contract, which will expire in 2021.
